Emīlija appears on May 22 in Latvia’s traditional name-day list. May 22 is also a shared day for unusual names and names not written in ordinary calendars. These are two related facts, not two competing dates.

What the Latvian calendar says

The Latvian traditional list gives the May 22 entry as “Emīlija. Visu neparasto un kalendāros neierakstīto vārdu diena.” The first part names Emīlija; the second describes the day for unusual and unlisted names. Our May 22 calendar entry shows the individual name and the shared occasion separately.

That makes May 22 especially welcoming if a person’s given name is absent from the ordinary calendar. It does not turn every missing name into an individually listed entry.

Does every Emīlija celebrate on May 22?

May 22 is a reliable Latvian-calendar answer for that spelling. A person may still follow a different national or family tradition. Ask which date they recognize before planning something important. Spelling matters too: an unaccented form may be a search convenience, while the published entry uses Emīlija.

How to mark the day

A call, flowers or a note are all fitting. For an unlisted name, a message can celebrate the person without pretending the name was individually printed in the calendar: “Your name deserves its day. Happy name day!” For Emīlija, a more personal line might say: “Happy name day, Emīlija. I hope May 22 brings you a lovely little surprise.”
