Name Day Today is an English-language almanac for the dates and stories that gather around names. It helps you find a name in its calendar, understand the custom behind that date and celebrate a person in a way that feels natural.
The name of this publication has two sides. Name day is the cultural occasion; today is the moment to notice and act. Sometimes those sides meet in a daily lookup. Sometimes a reader arrives to learn the larger story of a name, a calendar or a tradition. Both belong here.
What you can do here
Browse names A–Z, search exact names and inspect dates in the complete Latvian traditional calendar. Read our guides to Polish, Greek and Latvian practices, including how calendars disagree and why some religious feasts move. Find words for a card or ideas for a small gathering.
For Greek, Polish or Swedish dates, use the calendar relevant to that person. Our cultural guides explain those traditions; the Latvian date tool answers questions about Latvia’s calendar.
How we treat calendar answers
A name alone does not always determine one date. Country, language, religion, spelling and family custom can change the answer. We name the calendar, separate exact entries from related forms and mark a moving feast when a fixed date would mislead. We do not combine country lists into an invented universal calendar.
